What Happens at the Conference?

A positive and fun environment is set up to give you the chance to learn more about yourself and your abilities. You will have access to high energy activities and have constant encouragement that can't be found anywhere else. If you are interested in becoming a stronger student leader and building on important life skills then this is the place for you.

Delegates are placed into skillbuilding groups of about ten people where a pair of peer facilitators (skillbuilders) will guide them through a variety of games and activities. These sessions deal with trust, team building, diversity, group dynamics, achieving goals and planning. As you become more comfortable with your group, you will begin to learn more about yourself and your abilities as a leader. Delegates will also be exposed to motivational speakers, cheer sessions, a dance, a corporate fair and more.

Are There Any Rules at the Conference?

YES! There are a few rules you must know before you come to conference:

There are absolutely no drugs or alcohol allowed on the campus. Anyone found with these in their possession will be sent home at their own expense.

People are not allowed on the residence floors of the opposite sex.

You are not permitted to leave the campus at any time except with the permission of the Conference Co-Chairs. Special trips can be organized to purchase forgotten items.

Everyone attending the conference will be expected to behave in a mature and responsible manner. They must treat the facilities, equipment and campus grounds with respect. Anyone causing damages (lost, stolen, or broken items) will be billed after the conference.

Chaperones, Advisors and Certified First Aid people will be present to ensure that everyone has a fun and safe experience.

Who Can Go?

High School students (grades 10-12) are welcome at all regional high school conferences, the Inclusion conference and the Provincial conference. Depending on the region, Jr. High School students (grades 7-9), are welcome to attend all regional Jr. high school conferences. Any grade nines who attend a regional Jr. high school conference are able to attend the Provincial conference in May.

Student Leaders are team captains, peer educators, and anyone who takes a leadership role in their lives, both in and out of school. All are welcome at conferences! The NSSSA is a leadership organization, but that doesn't mean that you need a title to attend.
