Bylaw reform on the agenda for 2026 AGM

HALIFAX – NSSSA is pleased to share proposed new bylaws for consideration at the 2026 Annual General Meeting.

The revised bylaws address limitations in the current governing document and reflect the association’s evolving structure, operations, and commitment to student-led governance.

“These changes are about making NSSSA easier to participate in and easier to hold accountable,” said Abby Billard, Vice-President, External. “We’re modernizing how we operate—expanding access to decision-making, strengthening Members’ rights, and making sure our rules reflects the reality of a student-led organization in 2026.”

The proposed amendments introduce improvements across governance, meetings, and members’ rights.

In membership and elections, the changes improve clarity and expand accessibility, allowing more members to participate fully, including those unable to attend the AGM in person.

In governance, several appointed Provincial Cabinet roles would transition to a new committee focused on administration and operations. This change is designed to better separate operational work from governance roles.

Members can also expect a more open NSSSA, with increased transparency measures, including broader access to Provincial Cabinet meetings and enhanced notice requirements for both Provincial Cabinet and general meetings.

The proposed bylaws have also been reorganized to improve usability, grouping related sections together and updating language to better reflect current practices.

All members are invited to attend the Annual General Meeting at 4 p.m. on May 15, 2026, at St. Francis Xavier University for discussion and voting on the changes.
